Society's high-fliers

Jun 14 2002

by Zoran Blackie, Liverpool Echo

THIS Saturday, prepare to be shaken and stirred by the return of a club classic. Society will be graciously hosting another leg of the Miss Moneypenny's World Tour.

DJs Al Mckenzie and resident Les Calvert, playing their favourite disco-fuelled house to the ever-eager Saturday crowd.

Divine decadence can be expected across the board for another packed night. Society may be pretenders to the gay-friendly club throne, with Garlands going head-to-head to pull in the punters.

Garlands feature a welcome return of former Take That member, Howard Donald, and a truly talented Petrae Foy, with able assistance from Dave Booth and Huey. Call Garlands on 0151 236 3307 or go to www.garlandsonline.co.uk for info and booking tickets.

For tickets to Society, you can book by calling 0151-258 1230, or alternatively you can try and win a pair of VIP tickets by answering a simple question:

What kind of monkey can be found in Gibraltar?

Answers, with your name, address and contact number to info@society-liverpool.co.uk .

On-call protection

LIVERPOOL may be an up and coming gay nightspot, but there can be a darker side to every fairytale night out. Incidents and attacks on gay men have been on the increase.

Last year, Merseyside Police, in conjunction with the Merseyside Lesbian and Gay Community Forum, set up SHOUTline - a free and confidential helpline to report homophobic incidents (0800 328 4444). Since then the freephone number has been used to report attacks, homophobic incidents and complaints against officers.
