Tabac to the future

Jun 24 2002

by Zoran Blackie, Liverpool Echo

CAFE Tabac may have graced the Liverpool bohemian scene for many years, but has scooped 'Best new cafe bar' in the prestigious Theme awards.

Tabac, as it is now known, underwent a radical make-over last year, and now has a stunning interior.

Theme magazine is the bar trade's bible, and owner Elaine was thrilled to receive the accolade.

"We were up against the best and won," she modestly responded, as Tabac added the UK crown to their Northwest award.

Tabac has always welcomed a cosmopolitan crowd, and serves some of the best vegetarian food in the area.

And their current promotions include happy hours on pitchers from 7-11pm daily.

You can find Tabac at the top of Bold Street in the city centre. For more information, or party bookings, call on 0151 707 9795.

Well above Parr

YOU can toast the talent of Liverpool at one of the city's hidden gems. 3345 Parr Street is the relaxed members club, tucked away next to the recording studios.

This social oasis has a suitably chilled and relaxed atmosphere, which attracts the cream of Liverpool's creative talents.

They blend a comfortable contemporary styled venue with cutting edge technology and audio-visual equipment. This allows them to show in-house movies in widescreen, Monday to Thursday from 6.30pm.

They have all manner of gadgetry available for hire, plus facilities for band performances and showcases.

They also serve sumptuous soups and snacks. This Monday night also features their quiz night.

To apply for membership to this gay-friendly, attitude-free club, you can call 0151 708 6345, or apply on-line at www.3345parrst.com

Partners in time

AT long last, same-sex couples in Liverpool can now have their commitment recognised.

Applications are now being taken for the partnership register at Liverpool Registry Office.

This is open to couples irrespective of residence, but must be preceded by a commitment ceremony.

Couples should be prepared to make a lifelong commitment to each other, entered into with 'serious and solemn intent'.

Ceremonies last around 30 minutes, and are non-religious. They a facilitated by a professionally trained 'celebrant', with whom you can arrange for your choice of readings, music and dedications.

You will need evidence of your address and ID, such as birth certificate or passport, plus two witnesses to sign the register.

For further info and an application pack call 0151 233 4978.
