The Masquerade Bar, on Cumberland Street, will be joining the rejuvenation of Liverpool's gay scene with a late licence. This Sunday they'll be serving until after midnight, plus there's the celebrated cabaret that makes them a must-see for visitors.

A full programme of events will be released soon, but for the latest info, look them up online at http://freespace.virgin.net/masquerade.bar/

Crime file

MERSEYSIDE'S gay community has, generally, welcomed the life sentence passed on homophobic Lee Lacey, 21, for the murder of Keiran Parr.

For many years gay people have been considered 'soft targets' for robbery and attack, often due to fear of being 'outed' - or through lack of confidence in the police.

The trend is beginning to change and there are more people who are prepared to report crime against gays and Merseyside Police have been working closely with the community.

If you have been the victim of violent crime, you needn't suffer in silence. You can report crime in confidence through Shoutline on 0800 328 2244.

Victim Support also have been supporting those affected by homophobic crime. There are specific confidential Victim Support workers working with LGBs to help with counselling, information and criminal injury claims.

For details contact Jackie on 0151 207 3822.
