JOLEON LESCOTT has warned Everton their encouraging season will count for nothing if they fail to clinch fifth place and a UEFA Cup place this weekend.
The England international was named the fans’ player of the year and the players’ player of the year trophies at the club’s annual awards dinner at Liverpool’s St George’s Hall on Wednesday night.
It was a short break from preparations for Everton’s final game of the season when they entertain Newcastle United on Sunday.
David Moyes’s side still need a point to guarantee a fifth-placed finish and automatic UEFA Cup qualification.
Should Everton lose and Aston Villa win at West Ham United, the Goodison Park outfit would have to negotiate two rounds of the Intertoto Cup before sealing a second successive European campaign.
And Lescott said: “It is a great honour to win these awards, and we have achieved a lot this season. But it means nothing if we do not finish fifth and get back into Europe.
“We have been in the Carling Cup semi-final and had a great run in Europe. But it is not over yet, this weekend means everything and we still have so much to play for in the final match.
