TONY HIBBERT'S miserable season shows no sign of abating after it emerged the Everton defender will be sidelined until at least mid-January.
The right-back has been missing since suffering a groin injury in the defeat at Middlesbrough six weeks ago.
The problem, which was described at the time by head physio Mick Rathbone as "a serious injury", was initially expected to rule Hibbert out for two months.
But the extent of the damage and the slow recovery period means the 25-year-old will be unavailable for a further four weeks.
Hibbert has endured desperate fortune with injuries, and has made only four appearances this season.
He needed a hernia operation towards the end of last season and, having returned to full training, missed the start of the current campaign after picking up a tropical parasite while on a summer holiday.
It means Everton manager David Moyes has no option but to shuffle his pack into the New Year with no obvious right-back alternative at his disposal.
