EVERTON have revealed that they have been inundated with messages from Chelsea fans supporting Lee Carsley after they decided to lodge an appeal against the midfielder's sending off.
Carsley was given his marching orders by referee Rob Styles in the 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Easter Monday for a challenge on Didier Drogba - a decision that stunned Everton manager David Moyes.
An Everton spokesman said: "We've been over-whelmed with correspondence from Chelsea supporters who are backing us that Lee should not have been sent off.
"Obviously given the partisan nature of opposition fans, we feel that if even they did not believe the challenge merited a sending off then we could have a strong case for an appeal."
One Chelsea supporter even suggested that the Goodison outfit use audio evidence from the Chelsea crowd to help support their case.
Everton's spokesman continued: "One supporter, who e-mailed us, told us that he was sat very close to the incident and felt the red card was too harsh.
"He told us that the reaction from the crowd, including himself was pretty stunned and suggested that it might be worth using the video sound of the crowd to help with our appeal.
"His message read 'Generally the Stamford Bridge crowd is pretty sharp and ready to appeal for penalties or call for cards - as they did with Arjen Robben. With Carsley's tackle - I don't think they did."
