SPECULATION about Everton's future at Goodison Park has been rife since a plan for a waterfront stadium at Kings Dock collapsed more than three years ago. Now the offer of three prime development sites on which the club could build a new stadium in Knowsley has divided opinion among the blue half of the city's football fans. Last week the Daily Post revealed executives at the local authority was offering the club three possible plots including land next to Kirkby sports centre in Valley Road. Kirkby municipal golf course is also understood to be an option being considered - despite being owned by Liverpool council. It is thought the Knowsley offers, all close to the M57, would see the space being provided free or cheaply to attract the club. The Everton board has been approached with a number of sites since the collapse of the Kings Dock project in February, 2003. Other options Switch Island and Speke. The Kirkby offer has divided opinion in the city. Influential Everton shareholder Richard Lewis backed proposals for the club to move out of the city if it meant they would have the cash to build a new stadium. And the chairman of the Everton Shareholders 2006 Group, which has more than 100 members, said a move over the border would be worth it if the club was offered a good deal. He insisted the club needs to find a new ground soon so it can boost its revenue and compete with wealthier counterparts. But city leader Warren Bradley, an Everton season ticket holder, has vowed to "fight tooth and nail" to stop Everton FC leaving Liverpool. The city council is desperate to come up with its own sites within the city boundaries, and has not ruled out resurrecting a ground-share with Liverpool FC. But LFC has repeatedly said that is not an option, boosting the argument that a move to Kirkby may be the only tangible option.
