Lee Carsley arrived at Goodison Park at the tail end of January 2002, becoming one of Walter Smith's last signings for the club in the process.
The tough-tackling Irish international midfielder started his career at Derby County. After over 100 appearances at Pride Park, Carsley was snapped up by Blackburn Rover's for £3.3m.
18 months later he found himself out of Graeme Souness' first team plans and moved to Coventry City in a cut-price £2m deal.
Carsley figured for just five minutes during the Republic of Ireland's World Cup campaign in 2002.
A hard-working player, Carsley has gone on to become the mainstay of the Blues' midfield - especially since the departure of Thomas Gravesen - making more first team appearances than any other member of the Everton squad during the 2004/05 season.
It was during that campaign that Carsley scored a famous winner against Liverpool in the Goodison derby in December 2004.
A year later he signed a contract extension that will see him stay at Goodison until June 2007.
Having missed most of the 2005/6 season through injury, Carsley did return at the tail end of the campaign, only for suspension to force him to miss the last three games, after a sending off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The 2006/7 campaign proved much more successful for Carsley, who was a consistent first choice for Moyes, starting 38 games.
He has signed a one-year extension to his contract to keep him at the club until 2008.
