Rare chance for Wright to shine

Apr 24 2007

by Tony Cottee, Liverpool Echo

Richard Wright

RICHARD WRIGHT looks all set to come in for only his third appearance of the season on Saturday . . . and he must be itching to get out there.

Like most people, I’ve always thought goalkeepers are a strange breed.

Richard has been chomping at the bit to get back into the first team, yet he still goes out before every match treating Tim Howard like his best mate, warming up with him and training with him.

Other goalkeepers are the same.

You only have to look at my old team-mate, big Neville Southall, to know how different goalkeepers are.

Richard has talent, there’s no doubt about that.

But after he won his England cap and signed for Arsenal, things didn’t work out for him as he would have wanted.

It’s been the same at Everton, and he will see this Saturday’s match as an opportunity to advertise his talents once again.

He has a chance – and he’ll be looking to grab it with both hands.
