JERZY DUDEK is poised to step out of the Anfield wilderness for Liverpool's Carling Cup assignment at Birmingham City tomorrow night.
The Polish goalkeeper, who has yet to make a first-team appearance this season, is being considered for a recall by Rafael Benitez after serving a three-match ban following his sending-off in the mini-derby against Everton last month.
Dudek was in line to play in the previous round of the Carling Cup against Reading only for his chance to be scuppered by the red card handed out for violent conduct after a clash with Victor Anichebe.
The 33-year-old could face a further suspension after being hit by a separate charge by the Football Association over the incident, although Liverpool's decision to appeal means the Pole will be available tomorrow evening.
Dudek's last senior appearance came last May in the final Premiership game at Portsmouth, one of only five starts the goalkeeper has made since his Champions League final heroics in Istanbul against AC Milan 18 months ago.
Pepe Reina has played in every game so far this campaign for Liverpool, with young reserve David Martin recently deputising on the substitutes' bench in Dudek's absence with Scott Carson on loan at Charlton Athletic and Chris Kirkland having joined Wigan Athletic.
Anfield manager Benitez will again ring the Carling Cup changes for the visit to St Andrews, with the likes of Craig Bellamy, Robbie Fowler, Stephen Warnock, Gabriel Paletta, Daniel Agger and Mark Gonzalez vying for a starting role.
Liverpool won 7-0 at Birmingham in March in the FA Cup quarter-finals en route to lifting the trophy in Cardiff.
