Jerzy Dudek saves Andriy Shevchenko's penalty in the European Cup final

ISTANBUL hero Jerzy Dudek has been offered the chance to extend his Liverpool career.

The Poland international will be in goal for Rafael Benitez's side when they take on Galatasaray in their final Champions League Group C game.

The venue is the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul, where Dudek's saves in the penalty shoot-out helped Liverpool defeat AC Milan to lift the European Cup 18 months ago.

Since that night, Dudek has been usurped by Spaniard Pepe Reina as Benitez's first-choice goalkeeper with tonight's outing only his second appearance of this campaign.

The33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but yesterday revealed he has been offered a one-year extension.

"Rafa Benitez was asking if I would be able to sign for another year but I have to think whether it would be better for the future," said Dudek.

"It was a very tough time for me after the Champions League final.

"I got injured and then I lost my place in the team.

"But if you play for Liverpool and everyday you train with fantastic players and you are in a fantastic city, you can be happy.

"I know my contract is until the end of the season and I have to think about my future.

"There will come in a time in next couple of weeks when we will sit and talk about my future with the manager."

Liverpool manager Benitez confirmed: "We need to talk about the situation and analyse what is best for Jerzy.

"We have spoken to him about a new contract and now we are waiting for him to get back to us."
