JAMIE CARRAGHER today called on the Liverpool players to keep their cool in the white heat of the Merseyside derby day atmosphere.
The 207th Merseyside derby takes place at Anfield on Sunday and the Reds defender believes it is more important than ever that passions do not boil over, particularly at a time when the Football Association is putting increasing pressure on players to show greater respect to referees.
A veteran of a decade’s worth of clashes between the Mersey giants, Carragher knows it is vital that Liverpool are up for the game but he also insists their exuberance cannot be allowed to spiral out of control.
He said: “People talk about games against Everton being about passion, but they are also about keeping your head and using your brain.
“The players on both sides want to win so much. That’s only natural because it is such a big game.
