CARETAKER manager Les Parry is ready to keep faith with on-loan goalkeeper David Martin when Tranmere hit the League One road to Hartlepool United tomorrow.
The emergency that took Liverpool’s 23-year-old reserve keeper Martin across the Mersey to Prenton Park on a month’s temporary assignment may have passed.
Luke Daniels, Rovers’ regular number one, is available for selection once more after being forced to sit out last weekend’s game against Brighton through suspension.
But Parry plans to stick with Martin, whose experience in previous loan spells at MK Dons, Accrington Stanley and most recently Leicester City was apparent in his accomplished performance against the Seagulls last weekend.
It will be tough luck on Daniels, who has produced some outstanding performances since starting a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion at the beginning of the season.
Parry said making a decision between the two keepers is “no problem at all.”
The long serving physiotherapist added: “We brought in Dave because I felt it was imperative we had a fairly experienced goalkeeper for what was a massive game against Brighton. I think he acquitted himself very well. He talked well, kicked well and apart from tipping one effort over the bar, he did not have too many saves to make.
“His all-round game was excellent and I have said to Liverpool that if he carries on performing, he will stay in the team. I have got to stick to that.”
The trip to Victoria Park marks Tranmere’s third game under the temporary management regime of Parry, reserve and youth coach Shaun Garnett and coach Wayne Allison, who took charge of team affairs following the sacking of John Barnes and Jason McAteer a fortnight ago.
The players delivered fired-up performances in home games last week against Stockport (a 1-0 defeat) and Brighton (a 2-1 victory). Now they will be tested on the road, where Rovers have lost five out of six games, conceding 15 goals along the way.
