Mr Cake, 31, who is from Birkenhead, added: "This is our fantasy gallery, there is not a collection like this anywhere in the world.

"We were really inspired by artists in it - to us Damien Hirst is the art world's equivalent of the Sex Pistols. "Although there is a childlike element to it we are deadly serious. We want to get people excited about art.

"Tracey Emin has seen it and really liked it, except for the pillows we put on her bed."

Daily Post art critic Philip Key said of the exhibition: "Modern art has long been a bit of a joke to many and one can only feel that John Cake and Darren Neave are following in the great tradition.

"After all, could one really take seriously an unmade bed as an art work or

Marc Quinn's blood-filled head? "So it's worth having a laugh at the efforts of these two Lego artists. One can think of no more suitable reaction."

The exhibition opens at The Walker on August 20 and runs until January.
