Robbie Keane living Liverpool dream

Jul 29 2008

Robbie Keane with manager Rafa Benitez

ROBBIE KEANE today revealed he would not have left Tottenham to join any club other than Liverpool.

The lifelong Liverpudlian put the finishing touches to his "dream" £20m move from White Hart Lane to Anfield yesterday and is now looking forward to challenging for trophies with his boyhood heroes.

Keane – who will wear the iconic number 7 shirt associated with Reds legends Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, Ian Callaghan and Peter Beardsley – thanked Spurs for not standing in the way of the transfer and insisted he will never forget the way he was looked after by the London club.

"I couldn't have left Tottenham for any other club," he said. "It was a hard one for me because of the relationship I had with everyone there, the chairman, the fans and the players, and everything was set up lovely for me.

"But when the interest came in from Liverpool it was the only thing that could have ever taken me away from Tottenham and that's the reason why I'm here now.

"Tottenham have been absolutely fantastic. It's been a tough situation for them as it has been for myself, but in life sometimes you have to move on.”
