If you could sign any Liverpool who would it be? Torres. An incredible player, probably the most complete striker I’ve ever seen. I’d also take Steven Gerrard, too. Do you see Liverpool as a title threat? No. I think you’ll be a little closer but the signings you’ve made don’t exactly keep me awake at night. Keane is vastly overvalued at £20m and Riera is a City reject. I don’t think any side could win the title with Dirk Kuyt on their wing. You have Sun Ji Park. (Laughs) Park’s a decent squad man and never lets us down. You can carry a few players when the rest of your team is packed with quality. How do the fans now feel about Ronaldo? I still expect him to go next summer and I certainly won’t be shedding any tears. If anything it has probably served to make someone like Rooney even more popular with the fans. Even though he’s a Mickey Mouser, he’s one of us. After complaining about Real Madrid’s pursuit of Ronaldo, the way Sir Alex Ferguson signed Dimitar Berbatov – it’s all a bit hypocritical isn’t it? Absolutely. Unfortunately, it’s just the way football is nowadays. Do you think he’s overpriced at £32m? Is any player worth that amount, really? It’s all relative. We needed that kind of player. How do you view the whole American ownership issue at Anfield? It really surprised me how little objection there was when the Yanks came in at Liverpool. But that’s Liverpool fans all over. You’re always looking for ‘The Messiah’, whether it’s your latest manager or owner. How do you view the situation at Eastlands? Do you think they will eventually become a title threat? It’s Manchester City, even as the richest club in the world they’ll find some way of messing it all up. Finally, how do you see the game going? It’s Anfield, so it’ll be a United victory. |
