Rafa keeps cards close to his chest

RAFA BENITEZ will keep his players guessing about his final team selection of the season as he ponders which side to entrust with winning the European Cup.

Rafael Benitez talks tactics with Jamie Carragher, John Arne Riise and Steven Gerrard in Istanbul

Benitez held his final training session of a dramatic debut season in the Ataturk Olympic Stadium last night. He will not reveal his line-up to the squad until 90 minutes before kick-off.

The Liverpool manager has favoured the same system throughout the Champions League, with Steven Gerrard supporting a lone striker.

However, there is growing speculation Harry Kewell could be a surprise inclusion in the forward line tonight, with Gerrard playing in his more orthodox mid-field role alongside Xabi Alonso.

If confirmed, that would leave Didi Hamann disappointed on his farewell for the club.

Milan Baros and Djibril Cisse have been battling for the right to lead the line for the past fortnight and Benitez has given no clues as to who will get the nod.

"I may play both," he said yesterday, although his tongue seemed to be in his cheek.

The momentum has been with Cisse since the end of the season, but Benitez will also be aware how effective the French striker would be as a substitute later in the game.

Cisse's blistering pace could be a factor against an experienced but ageing AC Milan defence.

The Italians suffered an injury scare last night when striker Hernon Crespo tweaked his hamstring in training.
