DJIBRIL CISSE has called for an end to the speculation concerning his Anfield future after revealing the reasons behind his symbolic goal celebration on Saturday. The Frenchman, who had been served a pre-match warning by Rafael Benitez to do his talking on the pitch, came up with the perfect response by claiming a 75th-minute winner against 10-men Blackburn Rovers. The flamboyant striker then embarked on a cross-pitch jog to very publicly shake his manager's hand, a gesture Cisse hoped would prove talk of a rift between the pair was unfounded. "When I ran to the manager it was just a small message to people, just to show that there is no problem between me and the boss," he said.. "We have a normal relationship. He showed faith in playing me today and I hope I have repaid him." It was a sweet moment for Cisse, who almost exactly a year ago suffered a horrific broken leg against the same opponents, and he revealed how taunts from the away fans had acted as further motivation on Saturday. He added: "I could hear them. I thought they were saying 'glass leg' or 'how's your leg'. I was angry after what I heard and I really wanted to score a goal to show those stupid fans. It was okay. "I am very happy. I am pleased with my performance. I felt I had a lot of energy. I was happy for the fans and the team because we need points now." Speculation over Cisse's future had resurfaced during the international break, with the Frenchman claiming he would be forced to leave Liverpool in January if he felt his World Cup chances were being harmed by not playing regularly. Now, however, the striker wants to focus on his football. He said: "I have 11 goals this season and I am happy with that. I just want all the speculation to stop now. "There is really no problem between me and the coach or me and the club. I am happy to stay. Why would I want to leave? "When you see the fans and how they support me, you cannot find supporters like that anywhere in the world. I don't know why people would say I want to leave. I just want to work in peace. "The best way is to scoring goals. I am happy but the most important thing is points for the team. We cannot stay in 10th or 12th place. We need to climb up the table." |
