CHRIS COLEMAN declared Liverpool no longer strike fear into the Premiership after his battling Fulham side inflicted further away-day misery on the goal-shy European champions. It is six months now since Liverpool's last away victory in the league - a 2-1 win at Portsmouth in April - and this term they have managed a paltry four goals in eight league games. And when asked whether Liverpool carry with them the same daunting reputation of old, Coleman said: "They are still a good team. You know when you play against them you will be up against it, but they don't show the domination they once did. "We did not fear them yesterday. We matched them. They had a bit of pressure in the second half but I knew we weren't going to lose that game. "You look at Liverpool once upon a time when they were totally dominant. It's happened with Arsenal, Manchester United and it's happening with Chelsea now. But Liverpool haven't got that domination at the minute." Coleman did not write Liverpool off as a force, but his side's approach to yesterday's game and the equivalent fixture last year is evidence the Anfield aura has waned. "I have been sick this season of playing well and for opposition managers saying what a good team we are, but having no points. I was quite prepared to be as ugly as we had to be to get the win," he said.. "We took the game to them last year and lost 4-2 (after being 2-0 up) but they scored with two incredible deflections." Afterwards, Benitez ducked tough questions on why his side is misfiring. When asked how Liverpool can start improving their Premiership form to match their European exploits, Benitez simply said: "Goals. We need to score goals." And will he be entering the transfer market in the January window? "Until January we have time," added the Spaniard. |
