UEFA have launched an investigation into the racist slur that marred Liverpool's Champions League victory over Anderlecht on Tuesday.
Nenad Jestrovic was sent off by referee Kim Milton Nielsen in the 75th minute of the Anfield clash for what the official deemed to be racial aggression directed at Mohamed Sissoko.
Jestrovic subsequently denied the claim, but UEFA yesterday confirmed they will probe the incident with the case being heard when their Control and Disciplinary Body convene on Monday.
It was the latest in a string of racist incidents during games involving Premiership clubs in the past year, with Djibril Cisse having been the target for abuse in Bulgaria against CSKA Sofia in August.
"I showed Jestrovic a red card because he said something racist to Sissoko," confirmed referee Nielsen yesterday. "I know UEFA are very keen to stamp out racism in the game and are very strict about incidents like this.
"They want strong action, and sending him off was the proper course of action."
However, Jestrovic insisted he merely used agricultural language and that he has no reason to apologise following a "ridiculous" sending off..
"I am very upset about what happened, because I did nothing wrong," said the Serb.. "Sis-soko provoked me, first by catching me with an elbow then by calling me a son of a bitch in French. I replied f--- off. That was all.
