LIVERPOOL legend Ian Rush today dismissed claims the Reds are taking a risk by signing Craig Bellamy.
Bellamy is expected to join the Reds in a £6m move from Blackburn Rovers, and that news thrills fellow Welshman Rush, who urged Liverpool to launch a bid in his ECHO column earlier this season.
Having closely followed the 25-year-old's career, Rush believes Rafa Benitez may have snapped up the bargain of the summer.
"I'm delighted to hear Liverpool are interested in signing Craig," said Rush.
"He'll be a great signing because he's exactly the type of striker we need. He's got that extra quality the team has been lacking, which is lightning pace. For me, there's no risk at all at £6m.
"Liverpool had nothing to lose to be bidding for him and it's not a gamble at all. He's a top, top player, and in my opinion is the reason Blackburn qualified for Europe last season. His goal against Portsmouth last season was my goal of the season."
Bellamy's last spell at a major club ended in acrimonious circumstances, when a series of bust-ups with Graeme Souness ended his Newcastle career.
