Daniel Agger

Position: Defender
Squad number: 5
Date of birth: 12/11/1984
Birth place: Denmark
Former clubs: Rosenhoj, Brondby
Transfer fee: £5.8 million

THE highly-rated Danish international was captured by Rafael Benitez when the youngster arrived from Brondby for £5.8 million in January 2006.

Since leaving first club Rosenhoj and making his Brondby debut as a 19-year old, Agger has impressed for club and country in central defence.

He played during Denmark's 4-1 humiliation of England against the likes of Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen, proving to be good in the air and have a good left foot.

Agger arrived on Merseyside an exciting prospect and has impressed another Reds legend and fellow countryman, Jan Molby, during his short career to date.

Agger made only four appearances for the Reds during the latter half of the 2005/06 campaign but established himself as Jamie Carragher's centre back partner the following season, scoring an incredible 30-yard strike against West Ham at the start of the season and also contributing a clinical strike against Chelsea at Anfield in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final to help send the Reds to their seventh European Cup final.
