Argentinean winger Sebastian Leto joins Liverpool from Buenos Aires club Lanus, where he made 52 appearances and scored 8 goals in two seasons.
Leto rose through the Lanus ranks to break into the first team in 2005. His performances led to interest in Europe but he remained in Argentina for a further season until the summer of 2007 when Liverpool’s offer of around £2m was accepted and the player moved to Merseyside.
Standing at more than six-feet tall, Leto has the presence to hold the ball as well as the pace to terrorise defences.
Leto has stressed that Liverpool’s heritage is well known in his home county, making the decision to join the Anfield club an easy one, shunning interest from Spain and elsewhere. Real Betis and River Plate were among the teams battling for his signature.
The 21-year-old said that the presence of fellow Argentineans Javier Mascherano and Emiliano Insua at Anfield made the transition to Liverpool even easier.
The player made his full debut for Liverpool in a Champions League qualifier against Toulouse on the 28th of August 2007. He made his first appearance for the club in a friendly against Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.
