Harry Kewell

HARRY KEWELL is facing a race against time to be fit for next month's World Cup.

The Australian winger suffered more final heartache when he was forced to hobble off after 47 minutes of Liverpool's enthralling FA Cup triumph over West Ham United.

Scans yesterday showed Kewell damaged an adductor muscle in his groin and will be sidelined for two to three weeks. And that must put into doubt his participation for Australia's first game in the World Cup, ag ainst Japan in Kaiserslautern on June 12.

The 27-year-old will undergo intensive treatment at Melwood for the next 10 days before joining up with his international team-mates in Holland.

A club spokesman said: "We liaised closely with the Australian national team medical staff and their physio accompanied our club doctor to the scan. That scan has shown Harry has torn one of his groin muscles. We expect him to be playing again within the next two to three weeks."

Kewell suffered a groin injury during Liverpool's Champions League final against AC Milan and also went off in the Carling Cup final.
