I jumped in the air when we scored ... then fell on the bed in agony

Reds fan Robert Wright

JINXED is the word which Reds fan Robert Wright jokingly uses to describe himself.

And looking at his recent track record following the club at home and abroad, he has apoint.

Having already suffered aheartattack at the Premiership game against Middlesborough, 48-year-old Robert and his son Paul were looking forward to atrip to remember for the European final.

To cut down on costs, they were staying in Bulgaria and arrived on the Saturday before the Wednesday game. But within an hour of arriving, Robert was stabbed in the leg and ended up in hospital.

"I had a seven-inch wound on my calf but they stitched me up and threw me out after a few hours," says Robert. "I had no money because I'd been mugged and they wanted £90 to borrow a pair of crutches. The group of lads we were with, the Irregulars, offered to have a whip-round but I said 'no.'I couldn't put any weight on my leg so I hobbled back to the hotel."

It was there, with asmall TV and no English language channels, that Robert was confined.

"When the game came on I managed to get a German commentary, but really I only needed the pictures to see what was happening. When our third goal went in I jumped up, threw my hands in the air and punched the wall. Then I fell back onto the bed in absolute agony."
