HARRY KEWELL: His Istanbul nightmare deepened when it emerged he had suffered a groin injury serious enough to keep him out for five months. Produced his best-ever Liverpool form on his return but experienced more heartache with another injury at Cardiff against West Ham.

MILAN BAROS: The Czech striker's future was the subject of much speculation even before Istanbul, and he was eventually sold to Aston Villa for £6million. Failed to hit the heights as Villa struggled for form, but will be hoping for better things at next month's World Cup.

DIETMAR HAMANN (substitute for Finnan): His monumental contribution after half-time was expected to be the popular German's swansong at Anfield. But he was persuaded to sign a new deal at Liverpool and produced another influential performance in the FA Cup final against West Ham United.

VLADIMIR SMICER (substitute for Kewell): The Czech schemer departed Liverpool in the perfect manner. Since moved on to Bordeaux where, along with fellow former Anfield player Bruno Cheyrou, he has helped the French team into next season's Champions League. Currently injured.

DJIBRIL CISSE (substitute for Baros): Had demonstrated phenomenal powers of recovery to overcome the horrific double fracture of his leg suffered at Blackburn Rovers and return in time for Istanbul. But despite scoring 19 goals for Liverpool this season, Benitez is willing to sell the infuriating Frenchman.

SCOTT CARSON (unused substitute): Made one appearance on the way to Istanbul - the quarter-final home leg against Juventus - and played four times this season before being allowed to move on loan to Sheffield Wednesday. On standby for England's World Cup squad.

JOSEMI (unused substitute): The Spaniard's main contribution in Istanbul was to stand alongside Steven Gerrard as the skipper lifted the European Cup. Never settled in England and made 11 further appearances before moving to Villarreal in a swap deal involving Jan Kromkamp.

ANTONIO NUNEZ (unused substitute): An injury in his first training session set the tone for the Spanish winger's stay at Anfield, and he moved on after Istanbul to Celta Vigo where he was a regular in securing UEFA Cup qualification.

IGOR BISCAN (unused substitute): The Croatian crowd favourite had already been told his contract would not be renewed before the final. Played in all the Champions League knockout games up until being an unused substitute against AC Milan. Now plays for Greek side Panathinaikos.
