Writer Sarah Deane

FACED with astraight choice between anew career and a love of the Reds, writer Sarah Deane admits she agonised.

On the day of the big match last year, 33-year-old Sarah was already due to be in Turkey. The problem was she still found herself 500 miles away, on a writing course with Willy Russell in Bodrun.

"When I'd booked the course, it didn't look as if there was any way Liverpool were going to the final," explains Sarah. "We were struggling in the group stages, so I thought, maybe next year."

But, of course, her beloved team proved her wrong and that left Sarah, from Allerton, in turmoil.

"The opportunity to be taught by Willy Russell on a course with only eight places was areal attraction," says Sarah. "When we got through to the final half of me was elated and the other half thought I'm not even going to be there.

"Right up until the day I was desperately trying to see if Icould get there and back in 12 hours, but it was impossible."

Reluctantly, Sarah handed over her ticket to afriend but she was still determined not to miss out altogether.

"Willy's an Evertonian so he said he'd come and watch it in abar with me.

"I got back to the villa at 3am - with a bottle of champagne in my hand, singing You'll Never Walk Alone!"
