Football Forum: Liverpool could go for Emile ticket to feed Torres

Oct 14 2009

Liverpool Echo

I’VE just read that Emile Heskey is saying he may need to leave Aston Villa in January in order to maintain his place in the national side.

I know he is looking for first team football but if we maybe step in for him and pay the same as Villa did then his chances of going to the World Cup will be increased.

He will be at a bigger club and have more chances in the team, be it starting or off the bench. Is this worth a go? Heskey would work well with Torres but then we are pretty much sacrificing a goal threat like England do when they play him.

What do other Reds’ fans think?

AS disappointing and worrying as the news is about various knocks Reds stars have picked up on international duties this week, we all have to remember that this is the price we pay for having a team full of such players.

This goes with the territory and unfortunately we have to accept the consequences and just get on with the situation. Having said that, we can ill afford to be without our two most influential players, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, as last season’s statistics proved beyond all reasonable doubt.

IF Daniel Agger is fit and Dirk Kuyt is injured would Rafa Benitez consider playing Jamie Carragher on the right and push Glen Johnson further forward?

ONCE again our midfield trio at Chelsea were like maidens against Group One thoroughbreds.

Chelsea’s midfielders get around the pitch, all have vision and variation in their passing. Even in tight situations they can play the simple lay-off or pass, regardless of the speed of the ball they are receiving.

They are all good in the air and especially balls into the opponents’ box which they attack with great belief. And all possess the ability to shoot and tackle.

WE should definitely field our reserve players for the Carling Cup game against Arsenal.

This competition should always be reserves and fringe players, although I think Rafa is reluctant to now do this because of how much criticism he received after the FA Cup game against Burnley.

Since the Carling Cup is not a priority and not important, I would always prefer reserves in this game, with only modest expectations that they might do well.

I think in Rafa's first season a very young Reds’ team went to Tottenham and beat their first team. So it can be done. We should write off the League Cup every season, pick the reserves and just see how they get on. We should concentrate on the Premier League and Champions League.
