Gareth Edds reveals Tranmere are putting up a united front

Oct 28 2009

by Nick Hilton, Liverpool Daily Post

TRANMERE have formed a united front in the battle to lift themselves away from the League One danger zone, according to Gareth Edds.

The versatile Australian credits the caretaker regime, headed by physio Les Parry, for giving the squad a new sense of vigour and purpose as they attempt to recover from a wretched start to the season.

“This is a team effort and we are being led by some good people,” Edds said. “With Les, Shaun Garnett and Wayne Allison in charge we are making good progress.

“A few things have changed: the style of play and the formation. They have added to that by getting us to close down the opposition and work harder.”

Edds acknowledges that while the team is tighter and more resilient, the improved performances have not yet been fully reflected by results.

He said: “The situation we are in, we need to get some points on the board quickly. Back-to-back wins would make a lot of difference and we are capable of doing that. The confidence is growing. The boys have stepped it up a bit.”

Edds was a scorer in Tranmere’s last home game, a 2-1 success against Brighton and the 27-year-old’s work ethic probably helped him to claim in midfield place in the 4-3-3 formation introduced by Parry.

Parry said: “Gareth has done a superb job.

“I think Gareth can get some goals for us. When he first arrived here last season, he was getting into a lot of scoring positions in the early games. He could have been our leading goalscorer after 10 games.

“He missed some chances but I would never be critical of that because he got into the positions.

“I think he has the potential to be a 10 goals a season midfielder.”
