Achterberg beings weekly goalkeeping courses to unearth new Rovers star`

JOHN ACHTERBERG is setting up weekly coaching sessions for Wirral's aspiring young goalkeepers. The Tranmere Rovers goalkeeper was pleased with the response to a goal-keeping course staged during the half-term holidays. More than 100 boys and girls attended the event at Kingsmead School, Hoylake and Achterberg was encouraged by the enthusiasm of the youngsters. Letters have been sent to the participants inviting them to regular coaching sessions at Lever Sports, Brombrough on Tuesday evenings, starting next week. Achterberg said: "The course is open to all age groups. We are looking for boys and girls who are keen, who want to improve and progress as goalkeepers. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT "I was pleased by what I saw at the goal-keeping school last week. "Some of the youngsters impress this and we will like to do more work with them." While the event at Hoylake last week was free, a modest fee will be payable for youngsters who attend the weekly sessions.
