Anthony Kay joined Tranmere Rovers from Barnsley where he made almost 200 appearances.
Kay had played with Barnsley since a schoolboy and was vice captain last season. He can play in the centre or right side of defence and central midfield.
He was a key member of the Barnsley squad that gained promotion to the Championship in 2005-06 and scored the winning penalty in the Play Off final against Swansea City.
