THE last week has seen our progress up the league halted with the draws against Orient and Brighton.
While the unbeaten run has been pushed to six, Doncaster’s two wins have seen them double their advantage over us in the second automatic promotion place which makes a win today vital.
Last Saturday’s game with the O’s proved to be an afternoon of frustration despite getting off to a dream start as Calvin “Adebayor” Zola continued his rich vein of scoring form as early as the second minute.
After that while we controlled possession the final ball was lacking and we could not find that important second goal.
Credit to Orient as they kept going and their equaliser was a triumph for their perseverance.
Still it was gut wrenching to concede in the closing moments especially as the win at Elland Road had attracted an extra 1,500 fans than had been at the previous home game.
They will have gone home thinking same old Tranmere which would have been unfair as the display was not a poor one, but we do seem to have a habit of failing to win when we attract those extra bodies.
Tuesday at Brighton saw Rovers put in a performance of grit and determination to take a point from the Withdean.
This was the type of game that might have slipped away prior to our recent revival but the defence was strong on a night when we failed to find our passing rhythm.
Today we welcome Millwall were our victory a month ago courtesy of Anthony Kay’s late strike proved to be the turning point in our fortunes.
Let’s hope a win over the Londoners heralds the start of another winning streak.
