THE arrival of a winger on loan is a very welcome one, and probably a little overdue as well.
We’ve lacked quality in wide positions all season and the service to the front men has been poor.
Let’s hope young Danny Mayor can come in and add that little bit of cutting edge going forward we need.
Regardless of who is brought in to play on the wings though, I feel we’re now at the point where Ronnie needs to be going all-out for the win more often.
At Hartlepool we should have thrown someone else up front in the second half alongside Ian Moore, operating as a lone striker.
For those not at the game, a strong wind meant that most of the game was played out in one half – the one Tranmere attacked second half.
Every time the ball went forward Moore, for all his hard work, was often isolated and there just wasn’t enough to aim for. It wasn’t until we went behind for a second time that we finally switched to 4-4-2 to try and save the game.
If we’d have done this at 1-1 or 0-0 we may have walked away with three points rather than none.
It’s not the first time on the road it has happened. Stockport back in October sticks out as a prime example of Rovers not going for the win when the opposition is clearly there for the taking.
At this stage of the season we simply must start to win on the road or we will fizzle out and finish mid-table once again.
