Tranmere must show true selves

Mar 28 2008

by Dave Knott, Liverpool Daily Post

IT’S never been the Tranmere way to do things easily and after a mixed Easter programme, in true Rovers style if we are going to make the end of season play-off lottery it looks like we will take the full 46 games to do so.

The holiday started brightly and although we made heavy work of beating Port Vale our class eventually told. It was a case of job done and the chance to sit back and see how our rivals got on knowing we had put the points on the board.

The Thursday fixture had also given Rovers the luxury of two extra days rest and recuperation than their Bank Holiday hosts Bournemouth.

However come Monday and despite Kevin Bond the Bournemouth manager not being happy with that apparent advantage it counted for nothing. The two extra days looked as if they had been spent eating Easter Eggs as when a professional performance was needed against one of the divisions strugglers, Rovers put in a display reminiscent of the Oldham defeat at the start of the month and the players found themselves dragged in on Tuesday for training and another film show.

With the remaining fixtures including games against Forest, Southend and Walsall our fate still remains in our own hands and we can take heart from looking at recent results that all of our rivals are as likely as we are to throw in these unpredictable results. However with games running out and having played an extra game than most of our rivals for a top-six place we can ill afford another slip up.

Tonight we again have the chance to again steal a march on our rivals but it will take a much-improved performance to do so, so can the real Tranmere Rovers please step forward this evening.
