Red Rum makes it a hat-trick of Grand National wins in 1977 THE 2008 John Smith's Grand National marks the 36th anniversary of Red Rum's first win in the world's most famous steeplechase. A consecutive victory for the Southport-based horse in 1974 was followed three years later by a third and final success, much to the delight of expert trainer Donald 'Ginger' McCain and, of course, all those who backed the N H le Mare owned racehorse. The following tables charts all the winners, owners, trainers and riders over the past 33 years.
