Trilby

EMERGING Merseyside rock band Trilby played a major supporting role on a night of 'hard rocking' at the Manchester Apollo over the weekend.

Playing chief support to cult US rockers Tenacious D on Friday night Trilby reaffirmed their reputation as Liverpool's brightest young talent.

Their seven track set proved the perfect entree for a hugely entertaining night of comedy/rock, which had the packed out theatre bouncing for over two hours.

Trilby

From the excellent single Chick Movies through Do Wop Diddy and even a song about haircuts Trilby's entertaining tongue in cheek lyrics are matched by the band's seductive stage presence.

Lead singer Will Baylis had the Manchester crowd eating out of his hands well before he decided to join those in the front row armed with microphone and guitar for the final track.

The McCartney family genes are quite clear in the way drummer Josh - son of Mersey music maestro Mike and nephew on Beatles legend Paul - leads the band from the back.

While the keyboard influences of Chris Rothwell brings something fresh to the hard rock sound.

Tenacious D

The capacity crowd had obviously crammed in to see the self-styled 'Mighty D' - the acoustic two-piece led by Hollywood comedian Jack Black - but Trilby had the audience rocking long before the American's took to the stage.

In Chick Movies the band, which also features Matt Bigins on bass, already have a big hit single in the making.

If you see one local band this year then do yourself a favour and see Trilby, you will not be disappointed.
