Bernstein joins in a night of nostalgia

Aug 26 2004

Daily Post

SID BERNSTEIN, the New York impresario who took the Beatles to America in 1964, will be joining Allan Williams, the group's first manager, and Sam Leach, the Merseyside promoter, at a Merseybeat nostalgia night in the Grosvenor Ballroom, Wallasey, on Saturday.

The ballroom has changed very little since the Beatles appeared there 14 times before they were famous.

Saturday's bill features the Blue Meanies tribute band and the Undertakers.

The Meanies have been building a reputation as one of the best Beatle look and soundalike bands, playing at The Cavern Club on the evening of Sir Paul McCartney's birthday, performing outside McCartney's house at 20, Forthlin Road when it was officially opened to the public, and appearing at the Liverpool Empire tribute concert to George Harrison. There was a surprise appearance by McCartney himself at that event when he greeted the band with the words, "George would have loved this".

There will be a chance for fans to talk with Bernstein, Leach and Williams.

Bernstein, 85, regards Liverpool as his second home.

Ticket details on 0151 630 2707.
