St Silas School

THIS IS where five-year-old Richard Starkey first went to school in High Park Street, Dingle. Singer Billy Fury - then plain Ron Wycherley - was a schoolmate. Young Richie, as he was called, spent two years on and off in hospitals during his childhood due to many childhood illnesses.

Ringo must have had a soft spot for the old school. In the '90s he donated a cheque for £5,000 to turn the drab concrete schoolyard into an activity centre.
