JIM CANNON

by Peter Grant

Of every head he had the pleasure to have known ... the hairdresser who tended to the most  famous four heads in the world was Jim Cannon.

Jim trimmed the famous heads throughout the early '60s. He gained his famous customers after the manager, Brian Epstein, came for a trim at the salon he ran at Horne Brothers store.

At the time of his death in 1994, his widow told the Liverpool ECHO: "When the Beatles took off in America people realised that Jim was their hairdresser they kept getting letters asking for locks of their hair."

He would also take his scissors to manager Brian's office in Whitechapel. Jim also became a bit of a tourist attraction in his own right with hundreds of American girl fans.

Jim, who lived in the Clubmoor area of the city, also cut the hair of other celebrities when they called in to Liverpool to play the Empire and other Theatres.

But being part of Moptop history was his claim to fame - as well as being a first class barber.
