MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR A 55-minute TV special devised by Paul - and The Beatles' first critical failure. It was also their first project after the death of Brian Epstein. It was a film harking back to their days growing up in Liverpool when families would go on charabanc tours. As usual, the music was exceptional. It was released in EP form in Britain and The Beatles provided a colour booklet. The UK EP featured Magical Mystery Tour, Flying,Your Mother Should Know, Blue Jay Way, Fool On The Hill and I Am The Walrus In the US it was released as an album with side two comprising Beatle hits: Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, All You Need Is Love and Hello Goodbye. JAMES PAUL McCARTNEY At the height of his solo career, Paul made a TV documentary featuring footage of the former Beatle in multi-versatile form. Paul was seen singing some of his best-known songs - Live And Let Die, My Love and Yesterday. He went home to Liverpool and was filmed in New Brighton. THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY It was the idea of Neil Aspinall, now head of Apple, to make the documentary originally called The Long and Winding Road. It became, in fact, a multi-media package - The Beatles ... by The Beatles, comprising three double CDs collection and a six-part TV series, an eight-part boxed video set and a book selling for £35. The Anthology was a hit all over the world and new generations came to know the Beatles all over again. WINGSPAN Paul McCartney's own anthology of how he carried on after the break-up of The Beatles was produced by Paul's own MPL company to tie in with the release of his double album Wingspan: Hits and History. The Channel 4 documentary went to the top of the ratings while the album went straight into the Top Five in the Album charts. Daughter Mary and son-in-law Alistair teamed up to produce a poignant, revealing portrait of family man Paul, who sat and pondered the question everyone was asking: what happens after The Beatles? The film and album said it all. Using archive footage, fans of Paul enjoyed some rare concert footage and Linda's substantial contribution to Wings was finally put on record. |
