John Lennon remains the firm favourite among the Beatles portraits, a particularly striking one by Alan Joyce showing him with a bunch of delicious-looking strawberries under the caption Strawberry Field's For Ever.

One early Beatles haunt featured is a pleasant watercolour of the Jacaranda in Slater Street by Sylvia Binns, an artist who also captured the iconic site of The Cavern in Mathew Street.

Simon Birtall has some serious-looking and accurate acrylic portraits of all four Beatles while some other artists capture the look without adding much depth. A few have you wondering who they are meant to be.

Ann Cowley portrays a famous meeting with Mohammed Ali (the boxer appears to punching all four of them) and Maria Shuttleworth illustrates the song Hey Mr Postman.

With Beatles cushions, dolls and mosaics, Come Together is a free-ranging exhibition and certainly worth a visit for the fans. All the works are for sale.

* COME Together, at the Liverpool Academy of Arts, Seel Street, runs until Sept 1, Mon-Sat, noon-4pm (open throughout the August Bank Holiday weekend).
