Pete Wylie Pier Head, August 25, 7.30pm

by Peter Grant, Liverpool Echo

Liverpool musician, Pete Wylie

PETE WYLIE, the Elvis of Aigburth, will be flying the flag next week.

The Mighty Wah! is set to sing with our world famous Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Also singing with the Phil will be Garry Christian, Jennifer John and Thomas Lang.

But for Pete, it's personal .

He will be performing his classic single Heart As Big As Liverpool in a specially-commissioned arrangement by Ian Gardiner.

The free open-air evening concert on the historic waterfront at the Pier Head will be an emotive occasion for Pete.

He explains: "It's a tremendous honour; a real career high and a life-long dream come true for me.

"It's a song that's dedicated to the people of Liverpool and which is often talked of as an apposite anthem for the city in the upcoming 800th birthday and Capital of Culture years."

And Pete is dedicating his performance to an absent friend - the memory of his mother, who died recently.

Liverpool is central to Pete's whole career. After all, this is a musician who has a beautiful daughter called Mersey and once had a dog called Shankly.
