Masterclass in putting ideas across with enthusiasm and poise

Jun 13 2005

Daily Post

AN EXPERT from the Dale Carnegie Institute will give a masterclass on public speaking, sponsored by Viacom Outdoor.

The global business training company will be delivering two seminars at this week's BusinessLIVE week of events.

Stephen Hennessey will tomorrow be talking about the techniques that Carnegie perfected for turning the nervous public speaker into an accomplished orator.

Designed specifically for people with little or no previous-public speaking experience, Public Speaking Mastery will help participants to put their ideas across with enthusiasm and poise.

It will begin with participants getting to know their audience, organising their ideas and creating an outline speech and then actually delivering one.

In no time at all, participants will be using sophisticated techniques like voice modulation, attentionfocusing and idea pyramids to create impact and persuade your audience.

The following day, June 15, Mr Hennessy will run a course on coaching employees to be as successful as possible.

It will help managers make the most out of everyone in their teams by helping them discover abilities they were unaware of, with methods which motivate even problem employees. It will help supervisors focus on their scheduled one-to-one meetings or the chance one-to-ones that occur during the working day as these are the most productive times to motivate workers.

With their employee's full attention, managers will be able to speak openly and candidly.

The Dale Carnegie group was founded in 1912 by Mr Dale Carnegie, author of the world-famous book, How to win friends and influence people-It now has operations in 80 countries, with its north of England office in Leeds.

Director Mark Fitzmaurice said: "Our aim is to improve work performance.

"Our core competence is attitude and behaviour change throughout organisations large and small.

"The essence of good group speaking is to engage the group, to be inspirational and to leave a strong message.

"Most people, when they prepare a presentation focus on the content, but don't think about the style in which they deliver it.

"They spend a lot of time developing a Power Point presentation but their delivery is flat.

"We want them to leave an impression behind.

"Coaching staff is about encouraging people to do things that they could not do before.

"The principles in Dale's book are still petinent today and we use them as part of our coaching workshop. Our methods are tried and tested."
