YO! founder to share the secrets of branding

Jun 13 2005

BY BILL GLEESON Business Editor, Daily Post

SERIAL entrepreneur Simon Woodroffe is one of the key speakers taking part in this year's Daily Post BusinessLive week.

He will be joined by numerous other top experts who will be offering their crucial insights into personal and business development at a range of events to be held throughout this week.

Mr Woodroffe, founder of sushi restaurant Yo!Sushi, will be talking to delegates attending a seminar to be held on Wednesday in Liverpool city centre.

He will be delivering a talk on the subject of building a brand.

Mr Woodroffe is well placed to impart his experience, having founded the restaurant chain and a series of others based around the YO! brand.

One of the distinguishing features of the YO! brand is the use of innovative ways of delivering a service or product.

The 17-strong restaurant chain uses conyeyer belts to distribute sushi dishes around the restaurants. There are also robotic drinks machines. Customers can attract the attention of waiting staff by pressing a console that emits the word YO!

Other YO! brands under development include a fashion label YO! Japan and Yotel, a hotel chain.

Mr Woodroffe will be speaking between 2pm and 3pm on Wednesday at the Royal & SunAlliance's lecture theatre at City Exchange on Old Hall Street.

His talk is part of a series of events that include other seminars covering a wide range of business topics and a two-day business exhibition at City Exchange.

Other seminars include how to be a great public speaker and how to motivate staff.

Another speaker is Nighat Awan, owner of the Shere Khan restuarants. She will be speaking on the subject of going from local to national. The Shere Khan business began with one venue in Manchester.

There are now six restaurants around the country and Shere Khan sauces are sold by Selfridges and supermarkets around the country.

Daily Post acting editor Rob Irvine said: "This is a key opportunity for local business people to network and come and see for themselves the many terrific services aimed at businesses available on their doorstep.

"It will also offer a chance to meet with people who could become your best customers at some point in the future.

"And if all that weren't enough, attendees get the chance to hear some of the most successful business people in the country relate their experiences and impart the secrets of their success. This will be a fantastic week for the Daily Post as it culminates in our annual business awards, which are the region's top awards event.

"We feel it's very important to celebrate the success of our numerous businesses, large and small, that are making a practical difference to the prosperity of the region."

The week of events takes place from June 14 and includes a launch party and two major awards ceremonies.

There is a £10 charge for Mr Woodroffe's talk.
