Awards reflect keen spirit of enterprise

May 23 2005

Liverpool Echo

THE Liverpool ECHO Enterprise Champions Awards have mirrored Merseyside's amazing resurgence in the four years since they began.

Our inaugural competition of 2002 celebrated the region's entrepreneurial spirit, culminating in the awards finals in the ECHO's City Exchange when the then editor Mark Dickinson and Liverpool council leader Mike Storey praised entrants for their enterprise and determination.

Since then the awards have become an established date in Merseyside's business calendar.

And, after the city's fantastic success in winning the 2008 Capital of Culture in 2003, the region's economy has stepped up a gear with the resulting investment and renewed confidence.

ECHO acting editor Jon Brown said the Enterprise Champions entries reflect a new spring in the step among the region's firms.

"The variety and ingenuity of Merseyside business has never been in doubt, but the quality of companies now putting themselves forward for recognition in our awards is extremely encouraging," he said..

"Our three previous competitions have produced some real crackers and this year is no exception.

"We are very proud to be able to offer encouragement and a platform for recognition for so many of our region's firms who are so valuable to our community."

The Enterprise Champions awards are in association with Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank and supported by Business Link for Greater Merseyside.

Alex Smith, Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank senior manager said: "We are delighted to once again be involved with sponsoring the Enterprise Champions Awards which are designed to spotlight the creative, energetic and inspiring individuals who are helping bring a real renaissance to the commercial scene on Merseyside."

The awards take place at the Supper Club on Blundell Street, compered by TV presenter Simon O'Brien, on June 15.
