THE founder of Freeserve was the keynote speaker at this week's launch in Liverpool of i-start - a new network for entrepreneurs and innovators.
More than 80 business people attended the event to hear Ajaz Ahmed talk about how Freeserve became the largest internet service provider in the UK in just three months. The initiative is backed by Liverpool law firm Gregory Abrams Davidson and Digitalinc - one of the region's foremost business incubators.
Tony Hughes, from i-start, said: "There's been an encouraging response to i-start from those with a startup business idea, to those interested in supporting young companies on Merseyside in the information technology and digital media industries.
"It was fascinating to hear an entrepreneur like Ajaz talk about how he started Freeserve and turned it into one of the UK's most successful companies.
"Our goal is to put promising start-ups, and prestart-ups, on a fast-track growth route to market."
Gregory Abrams, senior partner at Gregory Abrams Davidson, said: "By backing i-start, we are committed to its aims of providing encouragement and advice, new contacts, background briefings on current hot topics and access to investment."
