ST HELENS glass maker Pilkington has formed a joint venture with Al Hamed Enterprises to build a new float glass plant in the United Arab Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The £109m plant will come on-stream in late 2008 and be able to produce 550 tonnes of glass a day for the building and automotive sectors. Pilkington chief executive Stuart Chambers said: "We have long wanted to establish ourselves in the centre of this vibrant market place.
"We are delighted to have formed a partnership with Al Hamed and have no doubts we can offer the local markets unrivalled quality and service using the latest technology."
