THE structural designers responsible for the rehabilitation of a former aircraft hanger in Speke have been awarded a commendation for their work.
Curtins Consulting received the recognition at the structural engineering profession's annual awards for their work on the Skyways building that is now home to Littlewoods Shop Direct.
David Harvey, President of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), said: "The winning projects, and those receiving commendations, are inspirational structures demonstrating the exceptional vision and structural engineering skills being practised worldwide. "
Dr Keith Eaton, chief Executive of IStructE, added: "Long gone are the days when structural engineers were just there as the implementers of an architect's dream.
"Clients have worked out that they get more value for their money if they involve the structural engineer at the initial design stage.
"If you don't get the skeleton of a building or bridge right from the
beginning, then the client risks incurring substantial extra costs and the final result is a poorly designed building.
"The Structural Awards are about recognising and celebrating the achievements of not only structural engineers but also project team work in the pursuit of structural engineering excellence."
