TIME is quickly running out to enter for Merseyside's most prestigious business awards. There is just one week to go to enter the Daily Post Regional Business Awards 2005, as nominations close on April 22. And the awards will be extra special this year, as the Daily Post is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Presiding as MC at a ceremony to be held at St George's Hall will be veteran newsman Peter Sissons. One of the awards to be handed out will go to the person who has done most to grow their business or enhance the reputation of the region. The Business Person of the Year award, sponsored by DLA, will go to a truly exceptional leader. We are looking for the person who has shown the entrepreneurial spirit that typifies the region's resilience and resurgence. Last year's winner of this category was Phil Hoskinson. Mr Hoskinson won the award for his leadership of the management team that now owns the Knowsley-based Ethel Austin. The company has seen strong growth in sales and profits during the last two years and recently announced plans to double the number of stores it operates around the country. Mr Hoskinson said: "I view this recognition of myself as a real recognition of the company and how it's got to where it is, and of our plans for going forward." The winners will be announced on Thursday, June 16, 2005. Companies can still put a last-minute entry in for the awards by completing a form available from the events department.
