THE huge task of taking down hundreds of signs proclaiming Liverpool’s Capital of Culture status has begun.
City council bosses say the cost will be small because it will take place in the course of normal maintenance work – but that could mean many signs will stay up until well after Sunday’s official end to 08.
At one of the major gateways to the city, at the Rocket junction, large metal 08 signs have been covered in tarpaulin while the council decides what to do with them.
The council also plans to leave in place some displays by updating the culture logo.
But it is understood that ahead of the unveiling soon of the new £150,000 Liverpool “re-brand”, city leaders are still talking about what direction the new logos should take.
Culture Company vice chairman Phil Redmond said the emphasis should remain on “culture” as the dominant theme of the re-branding.
